Botox® – Dysport
Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, creases in the forehead, and “crows’ feet” around the eyes. One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there’s a noticeable improvement that can last from 3 to 4 months. And there’s no recovery time.
You’ve probably heard a lot about BOTOX® Cosmetic. It’s been in the news, in fashion, health, and beauty magazines, and on TV. Your friends may even be talking about how it works. Could this be what you’ve been looking for—a procedure that can temporarily smooth those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows with no surgery and no recovery time? An improvement can be seen within days, lasting for up to 4 months.
Reducing Signs of Age
Since the underlying cause of many facial lines and wrinkles is the uncontrolled contraction of facial muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport™, and Xeomin® are all injectables that are used to relax these muscles and temporarily reduce muscle contraction. By alleviating the stress and pressure placed on these hyperdynamic lines, patients can gain a refreshed and rested appearance.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is most commonly used to treat both men and women who have wrinkles that are dramatized by facial animation and emotional expression. Dysport™ offers similar benefits to BOTOX® Cosmetic and is typically used to treat the vertical lines between the eyebrows in moderate-to-severe cases. Xeomin® is a new injectable treatment recently approved by the FDA that is primarily beneficial for frown lines. In addition, both BOTOX® injections and Xeomin® have helped patients who suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). During the consultation process, Dr. Crawford can help you decide which injectable can best achieve your individual cosmetic goals.
Why would you get treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
– You think those stubborn frown lines between your brows make you look tired, upset or angry.
– You don’t like the creases on your forehead
– You would like to soften the lines around your eyes.
How frequently is this procedure performed?
Almost 3.3 million procedures were performed in 2005 alone—a 16% increase over 2004. Not just models and movie stars, but people from all types of professions have tried it.In fact, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) ranked BOTOX® Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and nonsurgical combined). What’s more, the ASAPS surveys ranked BOTOX® Cosmetic as one of the low-entry-cost facial aesthetic procedures in the United States.
How do I know that it will work for me?
When it comes to selecting a physician-administered aesthetic treatment, chances are you’ll want proof, not just claims. The proof for BOTOX® Cosmetic is in the numbers. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results can last for up to 4 months, and may vary.
How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein that is injected into a muscle. This protein reduces that muscle’s ability to contract, which results in a relaxation of the skin and a decrease in visible wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. What’s more, unlike many procedures and over-the-counter wrinkle remedies, BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the cause of these frown lines by reducing the muscle contractions that cause the lines to form over time.
What Does the Treatment Entail?
One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there’s a noticeable improvement that can last from four to six months. And there’s no recovery time.
Recovery and Results from Injectables
With each of these injectables, there is usually little to no downtime for the patient.
Cold compresses are also used after treatment to help ensure comfort. In some cases, patients may experience temporary redness or swelling shortly after treatment, though these symptoms should quickly dissipate. Most of Dr. Crawford’s patients return to work or their normal daily activities immediately after treatment. The results from these injectables typically begin to be seen within the first 48 hours after the procedure and generally last 3-4 months. Results can be easily maintained with follow-up treatments.
Is Botox® Considered Safe?
If performed by the right person and in the right setting, Botox® injections are considered extremely safe. However, Botox® should be administered only by a qualified physician who understands facial anatomy and the potential risks of this procedure. BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65, and almost 3.3 million procedures were performed in 2005 alone.
What are the possible side effects?
Although Botox injections are considered extremely safe, your physician will review with you the potential side effects and contraindications to treatment. Botox injections should not be given if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant. Do not use BOTOX® Cosmetic if you: have an infection where BOTOX® Cosmetic will be injected, are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® Cosmetic, are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC / BELOTERO BALANCE® / Restylane Silk®
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler approved by the FDA for volume enhancement in superficial facial tissues. This option can help improve the appearance of moderate lines and wrinkles, most commonly around the nose and mouth. Restylane® Silk is comprised of a smaller, smoother solution specifically designed to subtly enhance the shape and/or volume of the lips. Furthermore, this treatment can help to significantly diminish the appearance of fine vertical lines above the mouth.
By selecting the most beneficial filler based on your unique needs, Dr. Glen Crawford and our skilled nurse injectors can effectively help you achieve your cosmetic goals with beautiful, long-lasting, and natural-looking results.
Treatment with JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC & Restylane® Silk
Due to their hyaluronic acid composition, allergy testing is not necessary prior to JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, and Restylane® Silk treatments. During the procedure, the selected filler will be injected into targeted treatment areas using a thin needle. Lidocaine, a special anesthetic contained within JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and Restylane® Silk solution can help to reduce any discomfort that may be experienced during the treatment. For BELOTERO BALANCE®, local anesthesia can often be administered prior to the procedure. Depending on the number of areas being treated, the entire process typically takes about 30 minutes to complete.
RESTYLANE® is a gel that is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. Restylane® can be used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. Restylane® is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel, consisting of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. Once in the skin, Restylane® works by creating volume. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.
